Description

Hoffman Homes for Youth is a private, non-profit, psychiatric residential treatment facility for emotionally and behaviorally troubled children located just outside Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  The principles of trauma-informed care are applied. Psychiatrists, therapists, and direct-care staff (Mental Health Workers & Mental Health Aides) provide comprehensive psychiatric care and behavioral health treatment to children and their families. Creative therapies (Pet, Music, Horsemanship, and Art) are utilized as alternative methods of building healthy emotional connections.  An on-site school, The Hoffman Academy, allows for an attentive educational program combined with a therapeutic component.

 

General Requirements & Skills

Mental Health Worker

The Mental Health Worker (MHW) is a direct-care / counselor position to children.  MHWs supervise the children in care and are responsible for their safety.  Throughout the day, MHWs guide the children through their daily routines and activities while documenting events and observations specific to each child.  This position is expected to approach each child in a therapeutic and trauma-informed manner. It is important to teach and model appropriate social skills and coping skills to the children.  MHWs must provide support for children who may be experiencing feelings of anxiety, frustration and depression.  The MHW is responsible for communicating pertinent information to the child’s therapist so that treatment can be properly assessed.  MHWs are asked to apply concepts trauma-informed care.

 

Full-Time & Part-Time

4 Days on/ 4 days off work schedule

 

$14.00 Hourly

 

Requirements

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age and have a valid driver's license. Education, within the mental health field and/or experience working with children, is beneficial.  Appropriate applicants must have a strong desire to help an at-risk group of children.  This position requires the ability to stay active, make good decisions within a busy environment and maintain a calm demeanor while working with an emotional child.  Additionally, this position requires strong ethics and accountability. Must be able to complete clear and legible documentation.
