Description
As a member of the Foundation’s leadership team, the Vice President of Grants and Community Engagement has the challenging and rewarding responsibility for advancing the mission of the Community Foundation through high impact grantmaking and strategic community improvement initiatives across a broad range of issues. The Vice President leads the Grants Department and is accountable for strategic direction, effective operations, and successful results. The role requires extensive community engagement, work with volunteer advisory committees, and creative strategic approaches to using YCCF tools for positive community change. The Grants Department drives the Foundation’s winning aspiration to fuel community transformation, inspires increased charitable giving to the Foundation through impactful grants and is at the forefront of the Foundation living its value of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises the Managing Director of Embracing Aging, Grants and Scholarship Program Administrator, Community Investment Officer, consultants, and student interns when appropriate.
Position Responsibilities to Advance YCCF’s Mission:
Engaging Donors (5%)
• Build positive relationships with YCCF fundholders and provide them support to achieve their grantmaking goals
• Inspire charitable giving to YCCF by demonstrating impact of grantmaking programs
• Assist in promoting the impact of the Foundation’s grantmaking programs by identifying powerful grant stories and donor engagement activities
• Assist in developing opportunities for donors to support the Foundation’s initiatives

Providing Community Leadership (20%)
• Gain a deep understanding of the systemic issues YCCF seeks to impact through research, participation in community committees and by listening to those in the field and those impacted by the issue
• Convene and collaborate with community partners to advance best practices, collective impact and systems change that are aligned with YCCF’s strategic priorities
• Identify public and private funding streams that can advance YCCF’s strategic priorities and build relationships with these funders to leverage additional funding for York County
• Coordinate with the Communications Department to develop powerful messages that advance the Foundation’s grantmaking priorities
• Represent YCCF at community events and meetings especially when grantees are involved
• Coordinate the collection of community level trend data to inform YCCF and the broader community (www.YorkCounts.org)
• Serve as a role model for diversity, equity, and inclusion and other YCCF values
• Participate in YCCF community volunteer opportunities when possible

Investing in High-Impact Initiatives (50%)
• Establish powerful grantmaking programs to achieve results in the Foundation’s strategic priority areas
• Build relationships and develop grant opportunities with individuals and organizations that can advance the Foundation’s priorities
• Identify and pursue opportunities for YCCF to use leadership and advocacy to achieve goals
• Evaluate grant applications and the capacity of applicants to achieve results and present recommendations to committees and the Board of Directors
• Provide staff support to the grantmaking committees to prepare them to make decisions by providing topical information, arranging speakers, and preparing grant presentations
• Ensure grant programs offer equitable opportunities and reach diverse populations
• Monitor grant results through regular reporting and check-ins and being an engaged partner on project advisory committees
Skills Sought
• Significant leadership experience in the nonprofit sector with substantial experience in program management, fund development, and/or community development
• Significant experience in grant writing and/or grant management
• Action-oriented with an inclination to see opportunities and test new approaches
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at a time within deadlines
• Excellent listening skills and openness to new ideas
• Ability to find synergies and processes to optimize effectiveness
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Comfortable learning and utilizing database programs to generate progress reports for analysis
Building Endowment for Future Generations (5%)
• Assist in making the case for support for building endowment at the Community Foundation through presentations on its positive impact on the community
• Confidently communicate the power of endowment and general overview of the Foundation’s products and services to donors and the community

Institutional Leadership (20%)
• Lead, motivate and develop a high-performing team
• Work collaboratively with Grant Department and the leadership team to establish policies and procedures consistent with legal standards in the field of philanthropy and that optimize efficiency
• Provide encouragement, coaching and consistent support for new department initiatives and strategic directions including the emerging TroveStreet aging platform
• Assist in the development and implementation of organization-wide initiatives to sustain a high-performing team
• Prepare and present departmental reports to leadership team, staff, and Board of Directors
• Work with the Finance Department to develop the annual budget for the Grants Department
• Support the integration of functional areas including Development, Finance & Investment, Grants Management and Marketing and Communications

Educational Requirements: Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of experience in progressively responsible leadership positions.
